What we believe at Branch Life Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

the Bible

We believe the Bible is without error and is God’s complete true Story about who He is, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do. God has made Himself known to the world in the Bible, Jesus Christ, and creation. The Bible is the final and complete authority in our lives.

(Ps.119:128; 2 Tim. 3:14-16; 2 Pet. 1:21)

God

We believe there is one eternally existing God, who exists as three persons living in perfect community—God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. God created the world from nothing and governs all things, always, in all places.

(Deut.6:4; Ps. 90:1-2; Is. 48:16; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; Eph. 1:3-14; Hebrews 1:1-4; Gen. 1:1- 2:3; Ex. 20:11; Heb. 11:3)

JESUS CHRIST

We believe Jesus Christ was fully human and fully God. He lived a sinless perfect life; died, as our substitute, the death we deserved because of our sin; and physically rose from the dead. He offers us full and eternal life through His own resurrection. Also see “Salvation.”

(Is. 7:14; 9:6; Matt. 1:23; John 1:1-14; Col. 2:9; Heb. 1:1-4; 1 Cor. 15:1-57)

The Holy Spirit

We believe each person who is “born again” experiences the presence of God, the fullness of life, and a personal relationship with God through the Holy Spirit, who indwells us, convicts us of sin, points us to Christ, and applies Christ’s work to our lives.

(John 16:8-15; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph. 1:13-14; 1 Pet. 1:2)

We believe the Holy Spirit gives gifts to the believer for the building up of the church. Some of these gifts can be categorized as “supernatural” gifts because their expression overrides natural laws and ordinary human abilities. These gifts have included speaking in unlearned foreign languages, the ability to miraculously heal, and speaking prophetically of future events. Although we believe that God is no less capable of working through His people in these same ways today, there is evidence from Scripture that these supernatural gifts were linked specifically to the birth of the early church as a way of confirming the message and are likely no longer active.

(Rom. 12; 1 Cor. 12-14; Eph. 4:11-16 ; 12:28; Heb. 2:4; 2 Cor. 12:12; Acts 5:12 & 1 Cor. 12:31)

Humanity

We believe every person possesses intrinsic dignity and worth because we are created by God, in the image of God. Because of the sin and disobedience of Adam & Eve, we have been separated from God. Yet mankind can restore this relationship through Christ’s death and resurrection (the Gospel).

(Gen.1:27-31; Gen. 3:1-19; Rom. 3:9-23; Rom. 5:12-21; Eph. 2:1-3; James 2:10)

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Each person must choose to accept the forgiveness, salvation, and the reconciliation that God offers to us through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. There is nothing we can do to deserve this life—it is all a gift of God, and our responsibility is simply to receive it.

(John 10:27-30; Rom. 8:28-39; 1 Pet. 1:3-5; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-6; John 1:10-13; Rom. 6:23; and Heb. 9:22)

THE Church

We believe the Church is not a building or organization. The Church is people who, as the body of Christ, are sent into the world to show the glory of God. The church fulfills its purpose by becoming people who follow Christ with their whole heart and help others to do the same.

(Matt. 16:18; Rom. 1:7; 1 Cor. 1; 1 Cor. 12:1-28; 2 Cor. 1:1; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:18; 1Tim. 3:1-15; Matt 28:18-20)

THE Future

We believe Jesus Christ is returning to the world in the future to judge the living and the dead. Those not saved face an eternal, literal hell while those who have trusted in Jesus will be a part of the New Heaven and a New Earth where Believers from all of human history will live with God. It will be perfect with no evil or sin. The first heaven and earth will have passed away.

(Mark 13:31; 2 Peter 3:10-13; Rev 21-22, John 5:28-29; Rev. 20:11-15, 1 Cor. 15:20-57; Phil. 3:20-21; 1 Thess. 4:13-5:11)
